May/June Newsletter

May/June has become a combined newsletter for many reasons, one of which is the arrival of several second-hand spinning wheels. OurDelft wheels have proved extremely popular and no wonder: they spin a 4-ply as easily as a chunky art yarn, are solid oak and great for beginners and experienced spinners alike. This particular pre-loved spinning wheel is varnished, comes with 3 huge bobbins and is ready for spinning. It can be tried out at Kiki’s Craft Corner, collected in person or sent by courier.

The latest Moda Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs and Layer Cakes are from the ‘Athill Range’ of Cabbages & Roses. Pastel purples, creams, blues and pinks to inspire you:

New patchwork fabrics include those much needed basics: background fabrics with small motifs. These are only a few of the new arrivals, the others can be found under ‘What’s New?’ in our Quilting section.

The Lochcarron Quilters & Stitchers have all been busy making quilts ranging from 12 to 24 inches for the group’s ‘mini quilt challenge’. Everyone came up with something very different:

Cathy combined some of our Oriental fabrics and purple marbles; Pat’s appliqué is reminiscent of old Baltimore quilts; Patrica was inspired by her fabric choices to have another go at making a log cabin quilt; Polly embellished ‘wonky’ strips in her own inimitable style; and …. to be continued in the next newsletter!

The Lochcarron Spinners have been spinning at various venues and events, which has resulted in some lovely knitted and crocheted items. We hope to be able to showcase these in our next newsletter. Meanwhile, if you are in the area, come and join the Lochcarron Spinners at the monthly meeting of the Wester Ross spinners at Achmore. More details can be found on our Workshop page.
