Summer Newsletter

Summer, well, we’re in September already so it’s obvious that we’re counting on an Indian Summer! Moda Metallics set the right mood: Northern Lights, startling sunsets, misty mornings and nights that are beginning to draw in. The six additions complement our range of metallics and, for something a little different, try using the ‘wrong side’ of the fabric, you’ll be surprised by the effect:

‘Lario’ by the Three Sisters for Moda is definitely a collection to remind us of summer, with this stunning scenic panel reminiscent of the Provence and the soft tones of the complimentary fabrics:

Our range of Batiks is expanding rapidly and there are too many new additions to post here, so please take a look at the fabric section of our website. At one of our drop-in sessions (Crafty Saturday), Pat brought this lovely piece she’s been working on:

We are always delighted when quilters send us a picture of their quilt and this fantastic quilt was made by Jan, who spent some time choosing fabric in our shop to go with the panel she already had, and it was definitely worth it!

During the past six months, our Patchwork for Beginners workshop kept everyone working hard. Blocks were pieced, techniques learnt and then the day for assembling and quilting finally arrived:

The Lochcarron Quilters & Stitchers have also been busy and held their second exhibition at the Howard Doris Centre in Lochcarron on 14 & 15 August. Quilts, wall-hangings, table centres, throws, handbags and textile art provided visitors with a lasting impression of the creative diversity of the group. These are just a few of the wonderful pieces displayed at the exhibition:

Following our successful Rigid Heddle Loom Workshop in the spring, Bart made his first scarf. He spun up some of our Merino/Silk tops (Libra) and some Mulberry Silk and designed this scarf which he had so much fun weaving that he has already started spinning for his next scarf :

Our second-hand spinning wheels are rapidly finding new homes. The following two pre-loved wheels have now been fully checked and cleaned and can be collected from our shop or sent out by courier. The spinning wheel on the left is a Louet S-20, affordable, robust and in lovely condition. On the right is an Ashford Traditional which comes with a Lazy Kate and has been fully reconditioned.

We are working on an exciting list of workshops which should come out soon and will be posted on our Classes/Workshops page.

Finally, the Lochcarron Spinners will be at the Big Spin in Achmore on 21 September from 10.30 am – 4 pm. Come and join us, bring a wheel or spindle or simply come along to see what spinning is all about!
